Lesson 3 — The Four Archetypes

King, Warrior, Magician, Lover

Moore and Gillette map mature masculinity onto four energies: the King orders and blesses, the Warrior acts decisively, the Magician knows and teaches, the Lover feels and connects. Each is necessary; none is sufficient.

Every archetype has two shadows

King splits into Tyrant and Weakling. Warrior into Sadist and Masochist. Magician into Manipulator and Denying Innocent. Lover into Addict and Impotent. Most male dysfunction is an archetype stuck in a shadow pole.

Diagnosis over aspiration

Ask which energy you overuse and which you avoid. A man who is all Warrior burns his people. A man who is all Lover cannot hold a boundary. Balance is the work.
