Lesson 7 — Sleep and Strength

The base under everything

Walker's research is blunt: short sleep lowers testosterone, blunts recovery, wrecks judgment and shortens temper. Every virtue in this app — discipline, patience, presence — is harder to hold on six hours. Sleep is not laziness; it is the cheapest performance work a man can do.

Load, not novelty

Rippetoe's argument is that a handful of barbell movements loaded slowly over years builds a body that carries children, furniture and old age. Program hopping feels productive and produces nothing.

Measure, don't guess

Vergel and Attia agree on method: run bloodwork, know your markers, fix sleep, body fat, training and stress before reaching for shortcuts. A man who guesses about his own body is not disciplined — he is superstitious.
